GRADUATION CEREMONY ISH ARTS AWARD 2009
Maurits Mink +

Congratulations go to someone who was present at the Orchestra once a week without fail and who led that orchestra adding greatly to its stature and self-confidence. For his loyalty and commitment to music above and beyond all expectations, it is a privilege to present this award to Maurits Mink, wishing him well as he continues his studies (viola) at the Music Conservatory in Maastricht.

The Subject Area Leader for The Arts, Professor Malcolm Davies presented not a music award, but an Arts Award for an outstanding achievement in any of the three Arts, Visual Art, Drama or Music. During the school year there were many wonderful contributions to the Arts from students in Year 13. Art exhibited in the school, and especially the IBDP Art Exhibition demonstrated the high standard of Art and this award might easily have gone to a Visual Artist. There were several Drama performances of an impressive standard. However, it was felt that in music the contribution of an outstanding group of students came to the fore. There were music students who, with very little notice, were more than willing to contribute pop, rock or Jazz performances to the many concerts given during the year. We had singers in the choir who took part in the concerts inside and outside school given by the choir for Embassies, at Christmas in churches and elsewhere. One of the pianists gained the highest achievement at the Eisteddfod, that of best performer of the day. All these performers showed tremendous qualities of musicality and loyalty.
